Shoppes on Sand Key Marriott Hotel Zoning Request

A request for a T (Tourist) zone designation has been filed with the City of Clearwater for the property where the Shoppes on Sand Key are currently located. If granted, the Applicant has indicated their intention to build a new 375 room hotel, a condominium complex and a spa where the Shoppes are currently located. The Applicant also would build a parking complex and additional condominiums on the property located between the existing Marriott Hotel and the Sand Key Sailing Center. In addition, the Applicant has expressed their intent to seek approval to build a Marina behind their property.

Public hearings on the application are currently scheduled before the Clearwater Community Development Board on 1/15 at 1 pm and the Clearwater city Council on 2/7 and 2/21 at 6 pm. Meeting will take place at Clearwater City Hall 112 S Osceloa Ave. Please plan to attend these meetings and express your views. Buildings withing the 500 feet of the proposed zone change may be granted "Party Status" which allows for presentation of professional testimony and questioning of applicants professionals. Bayside Gardens, The Grande, Harbor Light Towers, Landmark Towers 1 and 2, Lighthouse Towers and the Meridian are located within 500 feet of the subject application.

Currently the Grande, Landmark 1 and 2, and Meridian and the Sand key Civic Association (SKCA) have hired an Attorney and Planner to represent their interests at the upcoming City of Clearwater Community Development Board and City Council meetings where the Applicant's zone request will be considered.

Update:

Please be advised that the applicant for the Zoning Atlas Amendment from the Business District to the Tourist District (REZ2007-10001) located at 1201, 1241, 1261 and 1281 Gulf Boulevard will request a continuance of the case at the January 15, 2008 Community Development Board meeting. The applicant will request the case be continued to the February 19, 2008 Community Development Board meeting.
